An Garda Síochána
Children just love the authority that comes with role-playing a Garda and watching them take on the roles and responsibilities of the Gardaí and express their own personalities and experiences is a joy. Our authentic Garda Síochána costumes certainly help with that transformation. To make dramatic-play even more immersive our Garda Station pdf’s, available in Irish or English make it easy to set up your own Garda Station.
Our large format “I am a….”poster is designed for an early years environment where children can discuss the theme of Gardaí.
The Garda Station resource pack is not available to buy but comes with each Garda Síochána costume. The pack is a digital resource and it will be emailed to you when your costume is dispatched so that you can use it over and over again. You can download it, save it and print it as and when you need. We do recommend using cardstock and laminating some of the room signs and posters that you will use regularly. Thanks to the wonderful Muireann Ní Bheaglaoich the pack is available in Irish, you can specify your language preference when purchasing your costume.
Make your own Garda Station
Our printable Garda Station pack includes lots of resources so that you can easily set up a Garda Station dramatic-play area of your own. In addition to the “I am a…” theme poster there is another large format poster,
Detective Gardaí will love the set of printable Footprints and the Fingerprint cards and everyone can make their own Wanted Posters so that the real criminals can be tracked down.
Gardaí also focus on keeping the roads safe and making sure everyone sticks to the rules of the road. Our Road Safety Signs are a great way to set up a checkpoint and practice road safety as part of dramatic-play even on the days when little Gardaí can’t get outdoors and onto the busy streets.
What is included
The A4 posters included in the pack allow you to set up several of the different areas that you might find in a Garda station.
*Traffic lights & Stop sign
There are lots of mark-making and writing opportunities
We always recommend using real-life and authentic props whenever possible. In the case of the Gardaí, you might not want to go so far as real handcuffs but you can set up an area quite easily with a desk and chair for a workstation, an old computer monitor, a keyboard and some stationary. Folders and a clipboard would be going that bit further and if you can get hold of an old phone all the better. Everything you need in terms of forms, signs and posters are in the pdf pack.
Available As Gaeilge
“The Garda pack is a wonderful resource and currently one that isn’t available anywhere that I know off. Having them in Irish is a huge plus for me as my workload is gone. I don’t have to worry about translating and making the resources myself.
~Ciara M, Teacher. ”
The Garda Station pdf, like all of our theme packs, includes a section which details the Aistear aims and goals which are addressed as part of An Garda Síochána dramatic-play. There is a section for observations, for documenting extensions and emerging interests and for recording the children’s review and feedback on the theme.
