The Doctor and Veterinarian
Medical role play provides so much scope for children to explore their own identity, their body, their experiences and of course it allows them the opportunity to develop empathy. Our Children’s Scrubs are a very versatile option which can transform a child into a Doctor, a Nurse, a Surgeon, Dentist or a Vet. To make dramatic-play even more immersive our Medical Centre pdf’s, available in Irish or English make it easy to set up your own Doctor of Veterinarian role-play.
Our large format “I am a….”poster is designed for an early years environment where children can discuss the theme of medical professions of your choice.
The Medical Centre resource pack is not available to buy but comes with each Children’s Scrubs costume. The pack is a digital resource and it will be emailed to you when your costume is dispatched so that you can use it over and over again. You can download it, save it and print it as and when you need. We do recommend using cardstock and laminating some of the room signs and posters that you will use regularly. Thanks to the wonderful Muireann Ní Bheaglaoich the pack is available in Irish, you can specify your language preference when purchasing your costume.
Make your own Medical Centre
Our printable Medical Centre pack includes lots of resources so that you can easily set up a Medical Centre dramatic-play area of your own. In addition to the “I am a…” theme poster there is another large format poster, Welcome to the Medical Centre as well as a Welcome to the Veterinarian Clinic poster that can be used to designate a specific role-play area. The pdf includes A4 posters for the walls to designate different areas such as the Examination room or the Reception area. We have included plenty of mark-making and writing opportunities with Patient charts & appointment schedules, and of course, all little medics will love handing out prescriptions, sick notes and bravery certificates so there are plenty of those! The personalisable Name Badges can be filled in and attached to a lanyard so that everyone knows just who is in charge.
What is included
The A4 posters included in the pack allow you to set up several of the different areas that you might find in a Mecical Centre
*Examination room (Doctor & Vet)
*Patient and Pet charts
*Pet vaccination records
There are lots of mark-making and writing opportunities
We always recommend using real-life and authentic props whenever possible. In the case of the Medical role-play, there is huge scope to include common furniture to create a waiting room, household first aid supplies from plasters to bandages all of which encourage fine motor skills. An old computer, a phone and a collection of magazines, toys and a potted plant will complete a reception area. A working stethoscope is easy to source and is well worth a small investment for the amount of use that children get from it. Of course, lots of pencils, clipboards and paper will be necessary to efficiently run any clinic! Everything you need in terms of forms, signs and posters are in the pdf pack.
Available As Gaeilge
“The medical clinic pdf is really packed full of resources- so many great writing opportunities and ways for children to explore new language.
~Heather M, Early Years Teacher. ”
The Medical Centre pdf, like all of our theme packs, includes a section which details the Aistear aims and goals which are addressed as part of medical dramatic-play. There is a section for observations, for documenting extensions and emerging interests and for recording the children’s review and feedback on the theme.
For all the little medics to enjoy why not download this colouring page for free.
